The Ice Bucket Challenge has gone viral. We mean literally. But is the wastage of clean water acceptable?
The challenge, involving people dumping a bucket full of ice water on their heads and nominating their friends to do the same has gained immense popularity. The person nominated has 24 hours to comply or donate in charity for the cause of ALS . The challenge has raised money for ALS, and also has been able to bring to light , this lesser known desease.Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord.
The Ice Bucket challenge, started with a very noble intention, but somewhere on the way the original cause of ALS behind the challenge seems to have got lost to the extent that many taking the challenge do not know anything about ASL. With more and more people, filming themselves being drenched in a bucket of chilled water, the amount of water being wasted is unimaginable. Is it acceptable, to waste a full bucket of water when millions do not have access to clean water?
