Indian film ‘Masaan’ wins two awards at Cannes

Masaan,  Neeraj Ghaywan’s directorial debut, which premiered at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, has won two awards, FIPRESCI, International Jury of Film Critics prize and Promising Future prize in the Un Certain Regard.


Masaan, also known as ‘Fly Away Solo’, features Richa Chadda, Vicky Kaushal, Vineet Kumar, Nikhil Sahni, Sanjay Mishra and other in pivotal roles.   The  background has been done music by French musician Bruno Coulais, and 3 songs composed by Indian Ocean.

Director Neeraj  Ghaywan had previously worked as an assistant to Anurag Kashyap for the film Gangs of Wasseypur.

‘Masaan’ follows a group of people living in Benares, the holy city on the banks of the Ganges. It portrays the cruelty , which the leading protagonists face when they find themselves in a situation opposed to the moral traditions of the region.
